Vibe coding: the force multiplier
AI can shorten the distance between an idea and a working prototype. The durable advantage is knowing what to build—and what to verify.

The short version
Use AI to test a useful idea faster. Treat quality, security and maintenance as part of the product—not an afterthought.
From writing syntax to shaping intent
Popularized by Andrej Karpathy in early 2025, “vibe coding” describes a style of building software through natural-language prompts, with AI doing much of the implementation. It can make a rough idea tangible before you have mastered every technical detail.
That changes the entry point, not the responsibility. A prototype that looks convincing is not automatically reliable, secure or ready for customers. The real skill is combining clear intent with careful evaluation.
Speed is useful when it buys learning
The biggest benefit is a shorter feedback loop. A booking tool for a local business, a quoting workflow for a trade or a small calculation utility can be tested with the people who would actually use it.
Start with one user, one problem and one observable outcome. Avoid building an entire platform before learning whether the core workflow saves time or solves a meaningful frustration. Costs and timelines depend on scope; there is no universal shortcut.
Two ways to turn a prototype into value
A niche utility and a service supported by software are different businesses. Each needs evidence of customer demand.
- Niche utility: sell a narrow tool that solves a recurring problem for a clearly defined audience.
- Service supported by software: use your own tool to deliver an existing service more consistently or efficiently.
- Asset sale: a buyer will evaluate maintainability, ownership, customer traction and security—not just a polished screen.
Watch for the maintenance cliff
AI can generate code faster than a new builder can understand it. That gap becomes visible when a payment fails, an integration changes or a customer encounters an edge case.
Before accepting sensitive data or payments, get appropriate technical review. Test permissions, error handling and data recovery. Track ongoing service costs and make sure someone can maintain the product when the original prompt is no longer enough.
Validate first. Stabilize next.
Build the smallest useful version, show it to real users and record what fails. If the idea earns repeat use, invest in tests, documentation and professional review appropriate to the risk.
AI-assisted building is a tool for developing an advantage. The lasting value comes from domain knowledge, trust and solving the right problem.
